Is Red Hat the next Microsoft?

[ #7342 ]

This slashdot article asks this tired old question yet again.

The answer is no. People make that point quite eloquently in the ensuing comments. (At least, in the highly rated ones. I read at +4.) While many of us probably aren't using Red Hat as our primary distribution, I think the company is very admirable, along with their product. (I will always remember Red Hat 7.1 as the product that made me say, "I could give up my Macintosh.") Here is my favorite response so far.

I was going to link to a particular picture I remember from Mark-Jason Dominus' mailing list judo talk, claiming it was a photograph of someone who thinks Red Hat is the next Microsoft, but that talk isn't online yet.
