ENOPERLCONTENT

So the parents showed up at my flat last night at about 11 o'clock wanting dinner cooked for them.

I knew they were coming which was a plus, but it was still tiring.

Now, I'm shattered. I don't want to do anything. Hell, I'm not capable of doing anything :-)

How is it my parents are far more capable than I am of staying up until ridiculous o'clock?

  • Is "dinner" in the UK the same as "lunch" here? In other words, was it 11am or pm?

If it was 11pm, is it normal to eat so late in the UK? When I was in Spain, it struck me as surprising to see families going out to dinner at 9pm or later.

    • No, dinner can come at any time of the day, but it implies a fairly serious meal, i.e. not just a sandwich.

So, in this case, it is PM. Dinner in the UK, if you're going out for dinner at least, would normally be at 8:30-9 I suppose. But even so, 11:00 is a bit past me when I have to get up for work the next morning :-)
