It has gotten 3 reviews, only one being positive. So people are interested in it and trying it out. That's better than most modules! I plan on doing monthly releases and I have BIG plans for the module. Each month should bring a bunch of changes and features. Eventually, the module will rise in popularity. :) jacques 2005-08-30T20:15:20+00:00 journal Finding people or finding victims http://use.perl.org/~jacques/journal/25912?from=rss
Recently I needed to find someone's mailing address, so I went to one of those "people finders" that promises to be free just so you will go to their site.

I found who I was looking for and then I went to pay for the full address. They asked me for my credit card (normal) but they also asked me for my daytime phone and different address (not normal). That's when I realized that the instant I give them this information, they are going to add me to their database!

Then I checked their FAQ and I found this one to be funny:

Q: How do I remove myself from these records?

A: We value your privacy and, upon request, can block your records from being shown in many, but not all, of our search results. To do so, you should contact us by writing a letter giving us your:

       1. Complete social security number
      2. First name
      3. According to them, joining costs "just the price of a few pizzas". And I have to attend a few meetings and complete 2 big projects before I can be initiated.
Question: How is this going to help me in my life? I mean, is belonging to an honor society going to make any difference in the big picture? Oh sure, I guess I could mention it on my resume! Right next to my Perl certification ... oh wait. Really, who would hire someone because they belonged to an honor society. Moreover, just think of all the things I could do with "the price of a few pizzas," not to mention having to complete those projects and attend those meetings. Still, it's a nice accolade, I guess. Talking about pizza is making me hungry.
jacques 2004-02-02T23:03:12+00:00 journal Let's freeze his brain just in case http://use.perl.org/~jacques/journal/16862?from=rss Stumbled across a website, which lists Larry Wall as a potential game piece for a dead pool game. I've submitted quite a few to CPAN and I worry about my job prospects, especially when I see job ads on jobs.perl.org that say "If you have Windows experience, we will not hold it against you." Ouch. jacques 2003-09-06T18:33:57+00:00 journal
