I need a mini-me! I want someone to handle the conferences, the weekly status reports, the meetings, the marketing reports, the sales sheets, the feasibilities, the milestone payment authorizations, the decisions on tag-lines and titles, the backmatter, the free copies mailout, the gentle author pings, and the scheduling, so I can just bloody edit!

Not a solution, but interesting reading. (Score:1)
Check out Eon [amazon.com] and Eternity [amazon.com] by Greg Bear, and Diaspora [amazon.com] by Greg Egan. The conciousnesses in them can split off autonomous subunits ("partials" in the Bear books) that handle tasks and report back.
Also David Brin has a new book out (that I haven't read yet) that just came out, Kiln People [amazon.com], that deals with a world where people can create golems to handle the mundane tasks.
