Hang 'em by their balls
As a historyphile, I'm repulsed by the trade in stolen/looted artifacts, but I'm glad to hear there are art cops. I'm fascinated by the politics and law of the art theft world. There are books set in that world, some good, some bad. Anyone have recommendations?

The Island of Lost Maps [amazon.com] is an excellent read and, if you collect maps at all, will break your heart along the way.

:) Darned if I can't find another one that I wanted to recommend but The day they stole the mona lisa is fascinating but, alas, out of print. You might get lucky on abebooks though.

The man who stole the Mona Lisa [imdb.com] is the movie based on the book "The Day They Stole the Mona Lisa" which was about the 1911 theft of said artwork [monalisamania.com] :) ...The book titled 'man who stole...' is a work of fiction.
