New Job

[ #6454 ]

Well, I've decided to talk the job at my alma mater.

Should be fun to be back there. There are still professors there that I like and even some friends doing graduate work there.

Of course, there are a few learning curves to climb:

1) Win2k administration
2) It appears that the web servers are Zope. Guess I get the "joy" of learning python. I better start the underground perl resistance now.
3) "real" unix admin work. I've been mostly a power user of linux and unix with some dabbling on the admin side at home and my current job.

I'm getting a nice increase over my current salary. Still significantly less than my previous job but I can live with it. :-)

Well, better finish up the work I need to do for my current company.

  • Really. It's not that awful. And besides, Zope isn't really about python for the most part.

I've long held that any competent perl programmer should be able to pick up python in about 2 hours. It's really, really easy.

And besides, imagine if you were picking up a VB/ASP system. :-)

    • Yeah, I really need to do some reading on Zope. It sounds like the choice to move to Zope was based on content managemnt needs.

I'll learn more and figure out if I'll like it or not.
