fun, fun, fun

[ #1734 ]
it's been a fun few days...

yesterday I turned in the final corrections to the book. there is no turning back now...

with that in mind, I got the code repository set up on our website and Paul added some cool effects. now, people can go browse all our examples and point out the errors that can't be fixed. at any rate, someone might find something somewhat useful in there...

after I took 4 hours off from work to see Lord of the Rings (which was simply an amazing piece of thundering eye candy - a must see), I found that Randy had posted an RFC for another one of our modules. Apache::WinBitHack is an implementation of Apache's XBitHack directive that actually works for Win32 - apparently XBitHack is pretty much useless on Win32 unless you go around naming your server-parsed files 'index.exe', so this module offers a pretty transparent solution. It even compiles and declines to process requests on unix, so you can copy your httpd.conf from a unix box to a Win32 box, not change a thing, and *poof* XBitHack works just the same.

I'm not an Apache on Win32 guy, but this particular module was one of my favorites - it was lots of fun to write and should serve an unmet needs for all those Win32 hackers out there, which makes it doubly pleasing.

anyway, off for the holidays. merry christmas all...
