Everything I had ever read by good writers on writing books said that it was hard. 'The mental equivalent of building a tank out of scrap metal in a junkyard' is a phrase that comes to mind, but I forget who that was.
As for psychotherapy, *that* I can at least speak about. You cannot get useful psychotherapy from roughly 90% of the people practicing it, and those aren't good odds.
