I've been enjoying Rome: Total War (it's the game used by the Decisive Battles series on the History Channel). I've been attempting to win some of the historical battles including trying to beat the Parthians at the seeming unwinnable Battle of Carrhae.
One of the neat touches is that you get quotes from the era while waiting for the battle to load. I wrote a little Perl script to extract them, and share some of my favorites. I guess things haven't changed that much in two millennia.
Armed forces abroad are of little value unless there is prudent counsel at home
A people's voice is dangerous when charged with wrath
I am more afraid of our own mistakes than of our enemies' designs
The rulers of the States are the only ones who should have the privilege of lying
It is a bad plan that cannot be altered
