Remotes

[ #20432 ]

Now that I have satellite radio thanks to Sirius, I added an extra remote to the collection on my coffee table:

  • TV
  • Tivo
  • DVD player
  • CD player
  • Surround sound amplifier
  • PS2 (I guess I could retire this remote now I have a DVD player)

In my bedroom I've got another three:

  • TV
  • Stereo
  • Air Con (I love not having to get out of bed)

I think I need to start looking into one of those programmable universal remotes...

Having the satellite radio is great, the radio stations around here are pretty annoying, and not having to listen to adverts is an extra bonus. The problem is now that I want to listen to it everywhere, I guess I'm going to end up buying the car kit, plus another dock for work, then there's the problem where I want to listen to it in my bedroom too. Somebody needs to perfect a whole-house wireless system for video and audio.

  • I love the Harmony Remote [harmonyremote.com], although it has its problems. Specifically: the hardware quality is a bit lower than I would like (but they are good about replacements :-), and the web interface can be a bit of a pain to use. However, Logitech just bought them, so I imagine there may be improvements in both areas.
