I recently heard that, too. pod2html was just a placeholder for whichever tool they use. Anyway, I hope none of my future uploads to the CPAN will show these POD ERROR symptoms. I'd find them slightly embarrassing.:-)
Yes, search.cpan.org did recently change to using Pod::Simple [cpan.org].
I had forgot about the POD ERRORS section when I made the change, but then thought why not leave it. If it makes people fix their POD out of embarrassment then that's good.

I didn't know that this service has been added to search.cpan.org. Very nice. I was for a long time looking for a way to ensure that my POD is compatible with its POD-processor; now I can.
