The lights flicker. I dive for the keyboard to save edits. But the keyboard is on a laptop. D'oh.

  • Exactly the same thing happened to me last night. Including the external monitor the laptop was attached to. I just fumbled for the suspend key on my laptop and it was all fine.

    Unfortunately, my server didn't turn out so well. It's dead, dead, dead. I think the power supply has blown a fuse thanks to the genius of the electricity company in managing to make the power flicker on and off repeatedly for minutes before finally giving out. Still, there's no smoke.

      • I rarely plug my laptop into a UPS. However, the stationary home computers are well protected.
        • Oh, of course, that makes sense. What's the point of a laptop (already kept 'safe' by the battery) if you have to lug a UPS around to plug it in to...
      • Thanks, but I have enough noise pollution. :)

        I'm more seriously considering getting one now that I've been burned however. Previously, the power in this area has been very, very reliable.
