Teaching Perl

[ #29563 ]

Last Saturday I gave an introductory Perl course in Oporto.

I covered basyc syntax, variable types (scalars, arrays and hashes only), scoping, conditional and looping constructs, builtin operators and functions, files and I/O and subroutines.

3 hours of lecturing in the morning and 3 hours of exercises in the afternoon.

I think the audience enjoyed. There were 20 of them (15 students, 4 teachers and one other guy).

Over the next two Saturdays there will be two other sessions lectured by two other members of Lisbon.pm.

My slides can be found here.

Apart from the slides I also provided the attendees with a copy each of:

And there was also a poster ;-) [1.6M pdf, but worth it just for the picture]

As for the exercises, I have no slides on that; I simply wrote things down on a board.

It was an interesting experience :-)
