Documentation vs. Code

My previous boss used to say, as a joke regarding lack of documentation, that "the best documention is the code!"

I'm pretty sure he'd change his mind if he'd see what I've just been given... :-\

I find it really really annoying when a boss tries to cover his lack of skills or his laziness by a bad joke (esp. when it's repeated with arrogance, as my previous $boss did). The role of a boss would be to try to improve the way his team works, instead of feeling comfortable in a low-quality statu quo.
