And I'd like to know the answer. I've looked for the "brian d foy name FAQ" and haven't located it. (Actually I've found information for proper usage of the name, but no information about etymology.) I'm sure most everyone else knows the story, but some of us relative newbies would like to hear it.
As someone with an unusual name (putting an initial in front of your middle name seems to confound people to no end, and they all seem to think it's okay to just throw out whatever variant comes to mind, like
J. David works really hard, has a passion for writing good software, and knows many of the world's best Perl programmers
