Well I saw <a href="http://www.officeguy.com/">Office Space</a> again for the 5th time. I can never get bored of that movie.
<p>
And I also saw the new movie <a href="http://www.mgm.com/windtalkers/">Windtalkers</a> with Nicholas Cage. Its good story, and Cage gives a good performance.</p>aindap2002-06-17T19:07:51+00:00journalno more spam!

So I'm cleaning my kitchen tonight and all of a sudden I feel this rattling. I thought it was a train passing by, but I don't live near any tracks. The shaking lasted about 10 seconds when I finally realized it was an earthquake. I then proceeded to walk outside. Only a few of my neighbors were outside as well. The news said it was a magnitude 5.2 quake. I've been in California for a little more than a year, and I've experienced my first earthquake. Let's hope its my last one...aindap2002-05-14T06:14:31+00:00journalplanet watching

Over the past few weeks I have been watching the planets Venus, Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter slowly cluster together in the western sky after sunset.
Tonight Venus, Mars, Saturn a forming a triangle.
A beautiful site to see. The next time such a tight clustering will happen is in 2060. Read more here.aindap2002-05-07T04:32:15+00:00journalhelping out the boss.

Last week my supervisor walks in my office asking me if I could help him out with implementing/debugging a multi-level hash. I told him about the virtues of Data::Dumper and after fiddling around with his code, we fixed it. Afterwards I was feeling good about myself because its usually me going to him asking input/help about my code.aindap2002-04-29T05:23:31+00:00journalStop genomic neo-colonialism!!!

Here is a <a href="http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/network/2002/04/05/kent.html">story</a> about <a href="http://www.soe.ucsc.edu/~kent/">Jim Kent</a>, bioinformaticst (sp?)/computer scientist/open data hero. He is giving a keynote address at Oreilly's <a href="http://conferences.oreillynet.com/os2002/">OSCON</a>. Now if I can just convince my boss to let me go.
Jim and his group at UC Santa Cruz develop/enhance/maintain the <a href="http://genome.ucsc.edu/">UCSC Genome Browser</a>. It's a great tool to visualize the human genome and all its attributes (genes, annotation information,etc). I use it almost everyday for my job.aindap2002-04-09T04:56:28+00:00journaldsl
