"Did I ask too much?
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it's all I got"
-- U2

I was watching Inside The Actors Studio with Ben Stiller, of all folks, as the special guest. My favorite Ben Stiller moment - there are but few - the "Lucky Clovers" parody of U2's One Love, on the pilot episode of The Ben Stiller Show. (After it moved from MTV to Fox.)

Anyway, it made me start thinking of how we can replace the Perl Guru sessions at TPC with Inside The Programmers Cubicle, where young journeyman can learn the craft of programming from a master codecrafter. James Lipton can even ask a modified questionnaire:

  • What is your favorite operator?
    I'm a regex-addict, so I'd have to say =~.
  • What is your least favorite operator?
pack and unpack. I always have to play around with the template.
  • What modules turn you on?
    Tk. Simply amazing.
  • What modules turn you off
Most of the Acme:: modules. Only Damian and company could get away with doing something like that. If I were to have done that, I'd be laughed out of the room. (Well, more so than usual.)
  • What perlism do you love?
    One-liners.
  • What perlism do you hate?
    One-liners.
  • What is your favorite curse word when programming?
Shit. Only you've got to really draw out that first sound: "Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhit."
  • What language, other than Perl, would you like to program in?
    I already do: C.
  • What language would you not like to program in?
    C# or Java.
  • If heaven exists, what you like to hear God say when he does a code review?
    "Thanks, applied."
