Dear Log and Everyone,

I got a Tivo!

Now, since I'm cheap, I'm trying to figure out whether I can avoid signing up for the $10/month program listings. I'm curious how useless the box is without that service. Anyone know?

  • Without the monthly services, tivo is just a vcr that you don't have to change tapes for. You will have to manually set to record the time period of every show. Loads better than than a VCR but...

    With the monthly service you don't set times to record, you set Shows. Get a season pass to Buffy the Vampire Slayer on UPN, and tivo records every episode, regardless of what time it's on.

    With the monthly service you get the full programing guide, allowing you to see all upconing movies starring Hrrison ford
