Perl 6

[ #3421 ]
Dear Log,

"We expect to have alpha code a year from now, or some definition of alpha. We might even ship it, but we expect it to be well-designed alpha code."

-- Larry, in The State of the Onion Address, July 2000, when he introduced the Perl 6 effort.

  • Just not a year on Earth.
  • It's definitely a year from now. But it's a year from now now, not from when the statement was made. It's one of those relativistic things! :)

That, or it'll be here Christmas.

But, of course, it really will be really freaking awesome when it does get here, and I wouldn't rush it for the world. Quality, not speed. Let Larry, Dan, Damian and co. do their work, and then we'll get the best thing since sliced bread. Erm, since Perl 5, that is :)
