Cobol Plus Plus Visual Platinum Edition

[ #27913 ]
Dear Log,

(La)TeX is the COBOL of markup languages, and the only reason that it is not more widely derided as such, is that engineers and math people use it, and make funny squiggles with it; so everyone assumes it must be clever.

It is The Nightmare!

  • (La)TeX is the COBOL of markup language

Well, TeX is a typesetting language and LaTeX is a typesetting language pretending to be a markup language. Still a nightmare, but…

Have you tried ConTeXt [pragma-ade.nl]? Much less nightmarish, in my experience.

    • Yes, for all new work, I'd suggest that people use ConTeXt or something similar. But parsing existing (La)TeX documents is still a nightmare.
