Violator

[ #24953 ]
Dear Log,

«"Frankly, I was offended by it," Cheney said in the videotaped interview. "For Amnesty International to suggest that somehow the United States is a violator of human rights, I frankly just don't take them seriously."»

Despite all the philosophical writings on "incorrigibility of first-person authority", I have to say that whenever I hear someone say "I was offended by...", I cannot help but think that this is synonymous with "I will now freely lie and bloviate about...".

I have entertained this maxim for about a decade now; and so far, I have had no occasion to doubt it, and many occasions to affirm it.
