Super-smart pills

[ #22673 ]
Dear Log,

«If you ponder it, it might be that being extremely intelligent thru artificial means might be either extremely unpleasant, like just a drag; or it might be no big deal. [...]

Suppose you took some super-smart pills right out of the Vinge lab, and you found that you got really good at, say, listening!

Or maybe it'd radically ramp up your emotional intelligence [...]

Or maybe it would radically improve your bodily coordination, like you'd eat it hoping to get smart, but like "I can dance!"

Or you might have just painful moments of revelation about your previous behavior -- "no wonder I can't get a date!"»

-- Bruce Sterling, on "The Singularity: Your Future as a Black Hole"
