After I've been complaining for years about how Adobe
Acrobat loads about as fast as if it were actually mode of adobe,
I found this page.
I did what it said, and now Acrobat loads in like two seconds, instead
of like twenty.
On my Windows version of Acrobat 6 there is a directory called optional, in there is a single file called readme.txt which says: "Put unused plug-ins in the optional directory." Looks like Abobe thought about it already, but didn't tell anyone....
I would try that, except that with Mac OS X 10.3, Preview.app does all that I need with PDF viewing (esp. with all those plugins disabled in Acrobat:-), so Adobe's is (thankfully) obsolete.
