Perl meetings/event calendar

Casey's journal entry kinda sparked me to finally finish up what I had started well over a month ago. A shared calendar application where usergroups/trainers could register their meetings/trainingsessions in so everyone would have a single place to go for all their perl event needs.

Initially my interest in this was because of the ever debating when-is-the-next-meeting-thread on Minneapolis Perl Mongers list. And because it's kind of sad that we don't have a calendar like that. Even the PHP people have one. So this is my attempt at it.

Right now you can add events, flip through the calendar, and extract a RSS listing from it. I'm working on an administrative interface so I can let other people approve events before they go into the calendar.

After life comes?

Today on #apache@ircnet we had a fun little discussion about signatures and it turned into putting something about life in your signature.

<Rias> package life; BEGIN { die "Did you really think it was that easy?\n"; } 1;
<steven> package Life; sub DESTROY { return __PACKAGE__->new; } # Reincarnation

So we modified it a bit more to actually work and ended up with something like:

package Reincarnation;
sub DESTROY { Life->new; } 1;
package Life;
@Life::ISA = qw(Reincarnation);
sub new { bless {}, $_[0]; } 1;
package main; my $life = Life->new;

Which was kind of fun, 'cause it made perl segfault after a good amount of iterations (18021 times to be exact).

I'm sure someone else has made (and experienced) this before, but we found it very amusing. And thanks to Steven for making my day a bit fun ;-)

Pictures from a meeting

So, I took a few pictures from today's meeting - and since I'm not that good with names some aren't mentioned by their right name. The pictures can be seen at

Christmas, Digital Camera, Job

This is my first journal entry.

So, I've been living in the States with my wife for 6 months now and I really like it. Moved all our stuff from Denmark this summer.

And last week I got a job writing Perl and mod_perl code for a company in St. Paul. It was well worth waiting for! The place rocks.

Today I went out and got a Canon G2 digital camera and it is very nice, what awesome pictures it takes!

And btw, Merry Christmas.
