I managed to get debian to connect to the interweb thanks to aef who provided me with a virgin debian ppp options file after I totally caned mine.
debian is quite nice, although it still feels very different to redhat - less shiny. It also feels a bit more solid and unixy.
Now I can keep up to date with cpan and get coding again. w00!
