Last YAPC, I saw Simon talk about some kind of meta system information for his files (I think). Recently, I was thinking about how it would be cool to include meta information in Gaim but my C skills aren't good enough to send in patches. What I wanted was to have some kind of summary of that contact and what we last talked about, etc. Most of this information should still be entered manually ofcourse. While taking a shower this morning, the idea grew a bit and I thought about how cool it would be to have meta information for just about everything on your system? What about summarizing previous emails sent by the same person by right-clicking on them and selecting some menu option. What about looking in your picture storage for pictures of that person and having your IM logs handy right away as well? A simple "hack" for plain files would be to have .meta files and scribbling all the information you need or have it autogenerated (or both), like what your last changes were, what package a file belongs to...
