The budding young language designer:

Earlier this week Max invented functions while drawing on the clipboard. He made an 11, drew a square around it, and said, "This is called 'out-the-backdoor.'
11 out-the-backdoor equals 22.
35 out-the-backdoor equals 46.
To get out-the-backdoor you take away 9 and add 20."

I showed him the f(x) notation but he prefers the square.

Here's his second function (a square with open corners but still called 'out-the-backdoor'):
1 out-the-backdoor = -1
2 out-the-backdoor = 0

...and his third function:
1 out-the-backdoor = -1
2 out-the-backdoor = -3
3 out-the-backdoor = -5
4 out-the-backdoor = -7

(Listening to: Minuet by Bach performed by a 5-year-old.)
