On 27th July 2008, rushing to get something up in time for me to bundle it on the limited edition Perl flash drives at OSCON, Gabor uploaded the first release of Padre to the CPAN.
In the year since this first release, Padre has grown enormously to become one of the top Perl editors, second only to the giants of the field (Emacs, Vi, Eclipse, and Komodo) that have existed for many many years.
With a development and translation team of 43 people (and growing at 1 a week) and an active IRC presence of 30-40 people, Padre is well placed to join the ranks of Perl's biggest projects.
So on the weekend of the 27th, we invite you to join us in #padre on irc.perl.org for our First Birthday Party and Hackathon.
Events for the weekend include:
- The launch of our new website
- The first stable release of Padre Standalone for Windows
- The closing and judging of the Vertical Metre of Beer Plugin Competition
If you've never tried Padre, or just haven't tried it lately, we'll have a bunch of people on hand to help you install both Padre and some of the more esoteric plugins (such as the Perl 6 Plugins).
